CR84FN Color Challenge

Mona's Color Challenge is great for all kinds of occasions including Valentines. My card is a very simple one. Have you seen the very fun zipper flowers that Melissa Phillips makes?? Of course I could never match her fabulous shabby vintage style that makes them look so beautiful but I decided to give this one a try. Many years ago when I didn't have work and sewed all the time I bought a BIG box of zippers from a fabric store close out. Not one turquoise zippers but found a great red one for my flower with the turquoise button center. Used the other piece to sew across the card. Be sure to stop by and join Mona and her fab team in the challenge.

Mona has a beautiful color inspiration to use this week. A Martha Stewart punch made a little scalloped edge and I had a perfect pink piece of My Minds Eye paper to use. I made a lavender chiffon and tulle flower with a little purple heart bead center. I hand dyed lavender ribbon and tag completes it.

n us.
My Pixie Cottage image is a very versatile one called Stump & Bench by Sandra Hammer. You can use it alone or perch whatever you choose on the bench. I used a cute Tilda.Something I really enjoy making are paper bag albums. They are so much fun with all the irregularities and possibilites. Mine are usually pretty funky and grungy but I made this one pretty clean and simple. I stitched a green and dotted lavender dp to matt my image on. The stripe was stitched and attached to the album. My flowers and leaves were made from a variety of papers.
I cut out and shaped the petals and leaves then attached as a spray around the image. The sentiments were cut out with a nestie and foam mounted. Finished it off with a flourish and mix of ribbons and fibers.

Passionately Artistic

This week at Passionately Artistic our inspiration is a "Girls Night In" instead of a girls night out so be sure to stop by. I have had this shoe template for very long time. I got it on line somewhere but do not remember where. I used a fun double sided dp for the body and added a black heel with some tiny green flowers around it, a large black and green flower on the top of the toe and green for the buckle. I filled it with some yummy Hershey kisses.
I cut out a high heeled shoe for the invitation and added a little black for the heel, sole and a little curled flower. Computer generated the invite and attached inside. There is also a movie list to go with the invitation with a bunch of tiny flowers sprinkled around and one larger one.
This is the whole set with the little popcorn bags tied with the same black dotted ribbon as the movie list.

Flower Tutorial

This is my first tutorial for the Pixie Cottage. I wanted to show you how to make some flowers from nylon organza and tulle. I have made three different ones. #1. You will cut graduating circles. They do not need be perfect just a rough circular shape. #2. You will cut some petal shapes. Also cut some of these in green for leaves. #3. Cut a long strip about 15" long and 1 1/2 " wide and some small circles. You need nylon or polyester in order to create the melted edges.

You can use matches or one of those little lighters for BarB Qs. I find wooden matches work just fine. You want to just pounce it quickly along the edges. The edges will melt and curl a little. Dont get to close or the heat will just melt it up into a little ball. Make a few extras to practice on.
You can then stack as many layers as you like for fullness. Next using a needle and thread you will come up from the bottom in the center and stitch together. For centers you can add buttons like I have used or pearls, jewels beads etc. Stitch on your leaves and you have some fun flowers. For the third one I did a running stitch down one side pulled up the gather, wrapped around then added the stacked circles for the center.

Here are three I've created, a close up of the one. There are limitless possibilities with the basics.

Passionately Artistic

This week at Passionately Artistic I chose to do a thank you inspiration for a friend. It is a pocket card. I love this beautiful vintage print so I just tore it out and stitched it onto the base to form the pocket. The colors were a little pale so I enhanced them a bit with some watercolors. I also cut out some of the flowers and popped up for some dimension. The base is made with My Minds Eye paper that I stitched, stamped with some flourishes and added the sentiment. The friend poem tag is actually a bookmark and the other tag has two pockets. One for the teabag to make a cup of tea to sip on while reading her favorite book that she can purchased with her gift card. The tags were made with several of my new Spellbinders nesties. A button and some hand dyed ribbon finishes off the tags. Be sure to stop by and check out all the great inspiration the team has for you.
